December to March the herds gather on the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti and Ndutu, where calving takes place in a matter of weeks and predators follow closely.
April and May bring the long rains and the slow move west. June and July the herds press towards the Grumeti, and from July to October the northern Serengeti and the Mara River become the stage for the crossings most travellers picture.
We place you in camps that are already where the herds should be, rather than driving long distances to find them. In practice that usually means mobile camps that relocate seasonally, and a schedule with enough time to wait.
River crossings attract vehicles. With your own vehicle and a guide who knows the alternative approaches, you can hold a position for hours and watch it properly.
